Germany V Algeria Review

Germany V Algeria Review

World Cup 2014

The infamous botched free kick by Muller.

Towards the end of the match, with Algeria pushing Germany hard, and they won a free-kick just outside the opposition box.

It looked like a real opportunity to either have a shot on goal or get a cross in for some of the bigger men in the German side, such as Per Mertesacker.

Bastian Schweinsteiger ran over the ball, then came Thomas Muller to do the same but the serial World Cup goal scorer slipped, much to the hilarity of all watching.

Then came the actual chip, a woeful effort from Toni Kroos that the Algeria defence easily cleared, but looked to be aimed to Muller who was by this time still running into the box.

It looked like an “Epic Fail” but it has since been established by a German journalist (big surprise) that the free-kick routine was practised in training. Many do not believe this German journalist.

It has been labelled as the worst free-kick ever and one of the biggest bloopers in World Cup history – yet the reaction from the German camp after the game against Algeria confirms that it was all planned! I'm not convinced...
