Moore to Leave Leicester

Footballer Direct

Welcome to the Footballer Direct Roundup. Here are some of the transfers from the last week, and not without surprises. We are surprised to see Liam Moore being loaned to Brentford from Leicester seeing as he played such a key role in the team's promotion to the Premiership last season. Despite the team's mixed performances this season, we think it's a shame that this local lad has been loaned and we're sure he's gutted to be heading back to the Championship so soon.

Footballer Direct: Redknapp Resigns

Harry Redknapp Resigns

Welcome to the Footballer Direct blog. Harry Redknapp resigns as QPR manager stating a knee operation as the reason for the move. 67 year old Redknapp told club chairman Tony Fernandes of his decision to leave the club at 05:30 on Tuesday. QPR are currently second bottom of the Premier League. He is quoted as saying “I need immediate surgery… If I can’t give 100% it is better for someone else to take over.” In the meantime, he will be replaced by Les Ferdinand and academy coach Chris Ramsey.

Redknapp led QPR into the Premier League last season after a Championship play-off win. There have been reports however that he was one game away from being sacked in January. He blamed an insider for these reports stating that they were attempting to destabilise the club.

“I have had such a fantastic time at QPR," said Redknapp, who joined QPR in November 2012. “I would like to thank the board, the players and all my staff, and especially the supporters who have been absolutely fantastic to me.”

The 25-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper Norberto Murara Neto joined the Viola four years ago and the club have recently announced he has made the decision not to renew his contract. He will leave at the end of the season. Fiorentina have announced that goalkeeper Neto will leave the club when his contract runs out. He joined the Serie A team from Atletico Paranaense in January 2011. He soon became the regular first choice goalkeeper. Neto's deal at Stadio Artemio Franchi is now in its final months and the team announced on Saturday that he will be moving on.

A statement from the club was as follows: "ACF Fiorentina must announce that goalkeeper Norberto Murara Neto today officially informed the club of his intention not to prolong his contract with the Viola. The decision is definitive... Neto was keen to make it known that his decision is entirely unrelated to financial motivations, with his desire to be free to decide his own future the sole reason behind his move." Fiorentina face bottom of the league side Parma on Tuesday.

Can Steven Gerrard only play deep?

Footballer Direct News: Steven Gerrard

After his success last season Gerrard was moved to the top of the diamond of midfielders for Liverpool’s trip to Bulgaria. He is a fantastic player but didn’t seem able to get into the match to his full capacity. The top of the midfield diamond is a position that requires bursts of pace and constant pressure but the England star is 34 years old now and its starting to show.

Footballer Direct

Pundits can only see him having a few more years at world-class level in a deeper midfield role but Rodgers clearly felt that he needed him closer to the front.

He wasn’t the only one who took a bit of heat from that match. Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet's mistake allowed the hosts to take the lead has attracted criticism at the same time as many have jumped to his defense.

Sterling on the other hand is seen as Liverpool’s brightest light. He can cross with both feet and slips through the opposition effortlessly. This heat map shows his movement in the game and how much aggression he showed in his positioning.

Luis Suarez attracted a lot of negative attention, even having to leave English football, because of his biting antics in the recent World Cup. The now Barcelona striker is quoted as saying: ‘It is like an impulse, like a reaction… I believe I am on the right path now,’ and admits that he is seeking help before his return to football after a four month ban when Barcelona will face Real Madrid.

Footballer Direct: Caulker Wrongly Accused

Footballer Direct News: Caulker Accused of Stealing Cheese

Premier league footballer Steven Caulker, the £8 million defender of Queens Park Rangers, was handcuffed by police on suspicion of stealing a £1.85 tub of Philadelphia cheese from a Tesco store in Weybridge, Surrey. Caulker, 22, earns around £42,000 a week and was later released by police with no charges.

Witnesses from across the street had immediately recognised the footballer and reportedly found it hilarious.

A Surrey police spokeswoman said that no crime had been committed and that "there was some confusion between staff about payment." This confusion led to officers jumping out of a nearby squad car and handcuffed the English national squad defender in front of stunned on-lookers.

QPR nor Caulker have made a comment on the matter as yet. Find out more about Footballer Direct!
