Footballer Direct: Redknapp Resigns

Harry Redknapp Resigns

Welcome to the Footballer Direct blog. Harry Redknapp resigns as QPR manager stating a knee operation as the reason for the move. 67 year old Redknapp told club chairman Tony Fernandes of his decision to leave the club at 05:30 on Tuesday. QPR are currently second bottom of the Premier League. He is quoted as saying “I need immediate surgery… If I can’t give 100% it is better for someone else to take over.” In the meantime, he will be replaced by Les Ferdinand and academy coach Chris Ramsey.

Redknapp led QPR into the Premier League last season after a Championship play-off win. There have been reports however that he was one game away from being sacked in January. He blamed an insider for these reports stating that they were attempting to destabilise the club.

“I have had such a fantastic time at QPR," said Redknapp, who joined QPR in November 2012. “I would like to thank the board, the players and all my staff, and especially the supporters who have been absolutely fantastic to me.”
